Grow through Everyday Challenges · Chapter 13

What to Do After You Mess Up

Chapter summary

Fifteen-year-old Ruby copies sentences from a friend’s history assignment and initially feels relieved. Rewriting alone cannot undo her dishonesty, so she tells her teacher, accepts the school’s consequence, completes fresh work and apologises to her friend. She also plans to start earlier next time. The chapter contrasts responsibility with identity-crushing shame, connecting confession, God’s forgiveness and Zacchaeus’s practical restitution. Grace offers a new beginning without cancelling consequences or immediately restoring trust. Readers tell God the truth, make a specific apology with safe-adult support where needed, repair what they can, and establish a better habit. Harm inflicted on a child is not that child’s sin to confess.
