Begin Your Walk · Chapter 4
Learning to Listen
Chapter summary
During prayer, Eli considers giving his struggling friend a game borrowed from his older sister. He mistakes his excitement for possible guidance and resents her refusal until his dad explains that generosity does not override ownership or permission. Eli considers other ways to help and accepts correction. The chapter teaches readers to begin with Scripture in context, pray honestly about their preferences, test ideas for truthfulness, kindness and safety, and seek trustworthy adult advice. Neither strong feelings nor discomfort reliably identify God's guidance. Ordinary choices need not become frightening spiritual tests. Anyone using claimed divine authority to demand unsafe behaviour or frightening secrecy should be reported to another safe adult.
